Wordless Wednesday - Atty Whalum

Atty Whalum aka Eddy Mitchell was born about 1837 in Jefferson County, Mississippi on the John Mitchell Plantation. He was the son of Henderson Whalum and Mary Mitchell. Atty served with the 6th Regiment, United States Colored Heavy Artillery.

she had too much to do to sit around smiling for photographs. and who's arm is she holding on to? maybe that's why she's looking so gloomy. son dropped in on his way to or from where? holding on to him before he goes again. no too small an arm. a grandson.

Yeah, you right Kristin, Miss Hager had too much to do. I don't expect a cheese grin but I would like to see something in her face that told me she had a little piece of happiness in her life. Her father denied her, her man couldn't do a full day labor and the pension he received was cashed and stolen before he got to her. Life ain't fair.

I had to a family tree for my daughter for school. One day while being bored I Google these names from the family tree. I was so shocked When I found this picture. The people in this picture are mu great great great grandparents. My grandfather looked exactly like his grandmother.

It is likely they are related. The surname is uncommon for the area.

This pic is my grandfather grandparents and I have the whole photography of the family members that are on it. I am the granddaughter of Sylvester Wallace who is their grandson whom also is in the picture.
