In 2011, I blogged about the little country church when I didn't know the name of the church. Cynthia Thadison Williams provided the name.

Linda,
These photos just keep amazing me. I wonder if Della Green was an individual? A community perhaps? I'd love to see this shot up close. Thanks.
Saundra
So many things about this photograph make me want to know more.
Me too. More churches should take group photos and hold on to them.
The picture is wonderful. Over the years small country churches have been such a big part of the lives of the people who live in rural areas, and this photo shares their story.
A cousin shared the church was named for Benny Green. His wife was Louella, not sure if the Della was for her. If the wife had a lot of influence in the area, I can see members referring to the church as "the Ella Green church". Click on the picture and you can see the faces a little better.
Me too.
...and leave a record of the names of those in the picture, and a date photograph was taken would be appreciated. From their point a view, they are just trying to get a group photo, lot of planning.
What those walls have seen and heard, weddings, funerals, a school, meeting place to discuss concerns, etc.
Do you know when the photo was taken? Large congregation. Back then. 'going to church' was probably as much hearing the Sunday sermon, as it was about coming together as a community.
Cousins have dated the picture mid to late 1940s. Cousins have shared that they didn't see some people until Sundays and they would linger on the church grounds chatting.
How precious you found this picture. The purpose of the blog is to remember my folks and help others find theirs. All the best to you.
This brings tears to my eyes! I was somewhere between 8 mos old and 1 yr old when this picture was taken. I am in my Grandmother's arms (Annie Mae Campbell) on the first row of the women in the picture. I was born May, 1949 so this picture would have been taken late 1949 or early 1950. Rev. Tyree Harrison was the Pastor. I have been told that my Great Grandfather Charlie Campbell gave the land for the Church.
Thank you for responding. Can you identify any of the other members?
Miss Linda I can just imagine how emotional you must be to see this picture! Wow, I hope you get a copy and frame it for future generations!
A lot of the people in this picture have been identified. We blew it up and were able to see the faces of most of the Green’s, Crump’s, Johnson, Webb, Washington, etc. we are still trying to have other family members to help. This hangs in my home as focal reminder to my offspring where they came from.❤️π―ππΎππΎππΎ
Would you share the names of those whom you were able to identify? Thank you for stopping by for a visit.
I’m Sarah, Benney Green’s great-granddaughter. As a family member of the above group picture, we see Betty Green, Willa Ruth Washington, Birtha May Champbell, Mary Washington, Virgie , Green, Benjamin Green, etc. Just some of us. I’m on the very bottom row playing in the dirt. Of course I have no memory of this day in the Spring of 1950, but have been told about it from Thoes who knew. It is my confirmation, that nothing in this world is accidental. I had surgery on August 28, 2025. I had been told I had what appeared to be cancer of my adrenal gland. Once the doctor opened up my stomach, I was found to have had a secondary spleen. This was the result of a birth defect. I now have confirmation that many of those people in this picture who have died from cancer and other complications were related to me. My grandmother. Elizabeth (Green) Washington died in 1945 before I was born from breast cancer. Several family members have followed her, my mother, sister, aunt, and two daughters have all been diagnosed with breast cancer. Adrenal gland disorders, leukemia, kidney disease, diabetes, bone cancer, and other autoimmune disorders! Through it all, we’ve also had family members who have lived to be 100 years plus. I don’t know what the exact cause of our condition’s, but it is hard not to believe it’s something about the land, our ancestors were born upon. I’m grateful, that Grandpa Benney, was a man of God! We survived to tell his story! Amen. Sarah Lee (Washington) Kelley.
